Source: recombinant enzyme expressed in E. coli and purified out of inclusion bodies · Mr: 11 and 19 kDa processed fragments · Caspase-8 is a member of the interleukin-1 converting enzyme (ICE) family of cysteine proteases. It exists in the cell as an inactive 55 kDa proenzyme. During apoptosis, procaspase-8 is processed at aspartate residues by self-proteolysis and/or cleavage by another caspase. The processed form of caspase-8 consists of large and small subunits which associate to form the active enzyme. Caspase-8 activates downstream caspases (caspase 3, 6, and 7) that cleave key cellular substrates and lead to apoptotic cell death.1,2
